VITAMINS D AND K2

Vitamin D3 occurs in nature almost exclusively in animal sources and particularly in fish, dairy products, eggs and meat. Plants, such as lichens and various fungi contain only very small amounts of the much less effective vitamin D2.

Vitamin D plays a very important role. It is one of the few vitamins that is not absorbed directly from food, but rather produced by skin cells from sunlight. It is not a vitamin in the traditional sense of the word, but rather a pro-hormone.

In contrast to many other vitamins, vitamin D is converted into an important hormone which regulates cell functioning and bodily processes. Almost all bodily cells have special receptors for the vitamin D hormone that are dependent on sufficient supply.

Vitamin D and vitamin K2 are cofactors in the regulation of calcium metabolism.Together, the two vitamins control the formation and breakdown of bone cells and important transport molecules that ensure the correct utilisation of calcium. Vitamin K2 exists in different forms, each of which has a different level of efficacy. Vitamin K2 MK7 is today considered by far the most effective form of K2. Since vitamin molecules take different chemical forms (the so-called cis-trans isomers of vitamin K2), there are enormous differences even between different vitamin K2 MK7 active substances. It is believed that only the trans forms can be utilised by the body.

Take 1 drop with food every 3 days.

DAILY REQUIREMENTS

The contradictory information surrounding daily requirements for vitamin D intake can be very confusing. Daily recommendations vary greatly between different organisations and governing bodies.

For example, the EU recommends a daily intake of 200 IU for adults, while the German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends 800 IU.

However, numerous researchers and nonprofit organisations believe that these recommendations are too low and are not enough to prevent deficiency. An intake of at least 1,500-2,000 IU or 3,000-6,000 IU are recommended by the American Endocrine Society and the Vitamin D Council (USA), respectively.
